If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! The [tag]Walt Disney Company[/tag] has now gone from a mouse to a rat in its pantheon of cartoon characters. At first blush, it would appear to be a daunting task to make a rat a sympathetic character, but that’s [...]

Doesn’t make sense, I know, but I’m trying to do a take-off on the Iron Chef saying, “Whose cuisine regins supreme?” Usually, the Iron Chef’s, of course, whether it’s actually better or not.
I bring this up because I made a spur-of-the-moment visit to In-N-Out Burger the other day. Now, if you basically don’t live in [...]
Disney Bans the Fat

Well, not really, but the theme park division has become [tag]trans fat[/tag] aware and has announced it to the world. Is it just PR?
On a recent day trip to [tag]Disneyland[/tag] with my family, I did notice that a lot of the kids’ meals came with fruit and other healthy items as side dishes–for instance mac [...]
Cooking for Klutzes

As I was chopping some onions on Sunday for a guacamole I was attempting, I mused about why I could never be anything but a home chef. I’m just too slow at the basics. It takes me forever just to chop an onion even when I use the techniques taught by the professionals on Food Network.
Fundamentally, [...]

If you’re like me, you like to eat but it shows–around the waist and elsewhere.

Disney-Pixar’s new animated feature, Ratatouille, which features a rat named Remy as the star and eminence un-gris of a lad named Linguini, who goes on to great culinary heights from being a downtrodden kitchen hand, contains a few surprises of its own.
Turns out that famed [tag]French Laundry chef Thomas Keller[/tag], who is celebrated by the French [...]

If you’re not a California, Arizona or Nevada resident or a frequent visitor to one of those states who likes fast food, you may have never heard of [tag]In-N-Out Burger[/tag]. However, every 20something male (in California at least) thinks the In-N-Out Burger was created by God Himself. Their 20something women go along for the ride and [...]

You’ve no doubt heard that pitch many a time on kitchen gadget infomercials.
Now, there is indeed more in the life of [tag]Ronco[/tag] (Veg-O-Matic, etc.) founder [tag]Ron Popeil[/tag], 72, who sold his company two years ago for $55 million.
Now the company has declared bankruptcy, still owing Popeil $11.8 million.
What the hey? He still cleared more than [...]
Sign of the Times?

Let’s hope not.
When I was in one of the many nationwide [tag]Benihana[/tag] restaurants the other day, I saw this sign posted on the mirror in the men’s restroom:
“Please do not vandalize.”
Anybody else ever seen something like this in a restaurant?
