If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! To this day, I still get a [tag]Big Mac Attack[/tag]–a craving for the iconic McDonald’s hamburger that turns 40 this year (or next, depending upon how you compute these things).
The double-patty burger was introduced by a franchisee named [tag]Jim [...]

Top Chef did a little rerun action last night, showing an episode in which the contestants from seasons one and two came back to battle before the just-arriving team of contestants for season three.
I’ve seen this episode before, but I paid different attention to different things this time.
Interesting stuff…
It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time

I told you I go ga-ga over kitchen knives for some reason. Thus while at the [tag]Western Foodservice and Hospitality Expo[/tag] a couple of weeks back, I stopped at a booth where a guy was selling knife sets reduced in price from his Web site offerings.
He tried to get me to buy a package of [...]
Dinner Circuit for Failed Food Network Hosts
Posted on August 26, 2007 - Filed Under Food News | 2 Comments
We have a ton of dinner theaters out here in Southern California where you’ll find names of "blasts from the past" TV and movie actors and actresses who are reduced to plying their trade in the under-the-radar dinner circuit.
It’s a living, right?
A similar dinner circuit seems to exist for former "Next Food Network TV Star" [...]

Since I previously mentioned eating automated sushi at the [tag]Western Foodservice and Hospitality Expo[/tag] from an [tag]Autec Sushi Maker[/tag], I thought i’d better show you what it looks like.

Designer to the stars, including {tag}Posh Spice Victoria Beckham[/tag], [tag]Roberto Cavalli[/tag] has added to his fashion line a signature vodka made from whole wheat grain.
I was able to sample the stuff at the [tag]Western Foodservice and Hospitality Expo[/tag] in Los Angeles. The booth was way back in one of the most obscure corners of the [...]
Duelling Knives from the Western Foodservice Expo

As a little follow-up to my post yesterday about the just-concluded [tag]Western Foodservice and Hospitality Expo[/tag], I did some research on the two sets of knives that restauranteurs seem to favor–[tag]Forshner[/tag] and [tag]Mercer[/tag].
The Mercer site was easy to find, but when I used its "where to buy" function, it turned up no results for California. [...]
Western Foodservice Expo Concludes

The annual [tag]Western Foodservice and Hospitality Expo[/tag] rolled into Los Angeles again this weekend and concluded yesterday (August 20, 2007).
I’ve been attending the Western Foodservice Expo for nearly a decade now and at one point was even a cooking contest judge. I’m not sure how I hoodwinked them into that opportunity, but it was fun. [...]
Cure for Judging Bias on Iron Chef: A Throwdown!
Posted on August 20, 2007 - Filed Under Food News | 1 Comment
As I watched Iron Chef [tag]Bobby Flay[/tag] get his butt whipped in a crepe contest last night on his show Throwdown With Bobby Flay, I began musing about how anonymous, often nonprofessional chefs out in society can routinely take down Flay but professional chefs with years and decades of experience can’t come close on the show [...]

I enjoyed my first–and until recently only–Pimm’s Cup sitting on a veranda at the British Naval Officers’ Club in Singapore way back when, in the time of a different war.
I put the drink out of memory for a few decades until earlier this summer when I found a recipe and tried it again. I didn’t [...]
